Lakeside Crossing, just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, is an active-adult retirement community (it bills itself as a "resort community") for those 55 and older and is located in a quiet, suburban-like setting about 5 miles away from the center of Myrtle Beach (population 27,000), a popular retirement spot with world-famous beaches, more than one hundred golf courses and hundreds of casual and formal dining restaurants offering every cuisine imaginable. This is not a place to retire to get away from it all.
An incidental 693 single-family, ranch-style homes will be built at Lakeside Crossing, and as of this writing, homes are very reasonably priced. The community has nine model homes, and prices begin at $ 117,900 for the Greenbriar, which has 1,070 square feet, a one-car garage, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a front porch and many upgrades. The most expensive home is the Turnberry for $ 188,700. It has 1,910 square feet, a 2 car garage, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a covered front porch and many luxury features.
All homes are maintenance-free, with homeowners' paying a monthly HOA fee that covers almost everything (street maintenance and lighting, trash pick-up, lawn-mowing, etc.) except individual utilities. Homes also come with fully sodded lawns, formal dining rooms, state-of-the-art kitchens and window treatments as standard features. Optional upgrades include fireplaces, skylights, sunrooms, custom cabinetry and custom decks.
There are no closing costs when purchasing a home here, which can be a significant savings. Each home comes with a warranty that covers the entire structure and operating systems, and homes can be financed for up to 90% of the purchase price. It should be noted, however, that these homes are considered condominiums, meaning that an owner does not own the land upon which his or her home sets. The monthly HOA fee covers the land leasing costs. This is why the homes are reasonably-priced. Once a home is purchased, it can be ready for occupancy in 90-120 days. Lakeside Crossing also offers a deferred payment plan, which lets one choose a model and a lot and have 12 months to close the deal. Some homes are also available for rent (Lakeside Crossing limits the number of these, however).
Lakeside Crossing's beautiful clubhouse with spa is the social center of the community. Here residents enjoy a heated beach, a state-of-the-art fitness center, an indoor Jacuzzi, a computer center, tennis courts, a library, a hobbies studio, therapy and aerobics classes. Outside is a private fishing pier and beach. The community exercises an activity director so there are plenty of social and recreational get-togethers year-round. Myrtle Beach is the largest community within the Grand Stand, an area known for its beaches, dinner theaters, shows, pubs, shopping and more; there is plenty to keep the most active senior busy. South Carolina's Intracoastal Waterway meanders the length of the Grand Stand and provides fishing and boating opportunities, and the Atlantic Ocean is a short drive to the East. Lakeside Crossing does not have an on-site golf course, but three championship courses are a short distance away.
Conway Hospital is a mile and a half from Lakeside Crossing, and the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center is thirteen miles away.
The Myrtle Beach area has a mild climate, with a brief winter (temperatures dip into the upper 40s and low 50s). Summer temperatures average in the 80s, and the sun shines 70% of the time.
