A Breonna Taylor statue in Oakland, California is vandalized just two weeks after it was installed. On Monday, authorities said they were investigating the incident in which the ceramic bust was reportedly smashed with a baseball bat.

It depicted the Kentucky woman who died in March while police served a warrant at her residence as they reportedly suspected two men wanted for drug trafficking of having used her apartment to receive illicit packages.

The sculptor, Leo Carson, told reporters he believes this was not a random act and that he hopes to restore the bust and recast it in bronze.

Meanwhile, local police said they are aware of the vandalism and are conducting an investigation into the incident.
