Update: Horry County police say they have the suspect in custody. Authorities are working a fire on scene and are advising people nearby to stay in place. Nicole Neisius, the stepdaughter of Terry Brady (the arrestee), told The Sun News that her mom Linda and her grandmother, who’s in her 90s, were OK and with police.
Police say one person was injured but did not specify the nature of it. They did say the person’s injuries were treated. There was a fully-involved structure fire at the scene that is now under control and no one was injured. There is no longer a risk to the community, but police are asking people to avoid the area as it’s still under investigation.
Horry County police are investigating an “active shooting incident” outside of Conway and are asking citizens to avoid the area.
The incident is taking place around Fox Hollow Road near S.C. 544 and Myrtle Ridge Road. Police said the incident began as a domestic violence incident at 12:13 p.m. near Miles Standish Court and sometime afterward shots were fired.
Police are looking for a suspect named Terry Brady, who is considered armed and dangerous. He is a white man in his 60s wearing brown work boots, blue jeans and a yellow construction shirt, police say.
Police urge anyone who sees Brady to call 911 and not approach him.
Tom Korinek, a witness nearby who says he’s a former friend who’s known Brady for 11 years, said the suspect’s stepdaughter, Nicole Neisius, told him that Brady had planned to die via “suicide by cop” this morning and that the man’s wife slept with a gun under her pillow Wednesday night in fear of what her husband might do.
Korinek added that Brady’s mother-in-law who is in her 90s lives with the couple.
At about 2:30 p.m. police tweeted that there is now a small fire at the house where the incident began and that people living in Miles Standish Court may see smoke and flames. They said Horry County Fire Rescue, HCPD and Horry County 911 are aware.
Since the initial fire, smoke could be seen coming from the area several times.
There are about a dozen police cars, with some flashing blue lights, and some fire trucks at the Food Lion nearby. Members from Conway police and fire, the S.C. Highway Patrol, the Horry County Sheriff’s Office, SWAT and the State Law Enforcement Division are assisting. Several helicopters are also in the air nearby.
Police sent a Code Red alert to subscribers in the area to inform them of the active incident. Cops have repeatedly urged people nearby to stay inside.
Horry County police charged Brady with third-degree criminal sexual conduct in 2019, though the result of that case is unclear.
